Ukraine Will Block Access to Popular Russian Social Networks and Search Engine

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko signed a decree blocking access to Russian social networks like Vkontakte (VK) and Odnoklassniki as well as to the search engine giant Yandex, reports the Kyiv Post. VK is Ukraine’s most popular social network and Poroshenko has an official account on VK where he also announced the new law, noting that he will soon delete his profile.

Yandex is the country’s second most popular search engine to Google and the Ukrianian market is VK’s second largest after Russia, according to the Kyiv Post.

In 2014 Ukraine blocked 14 Russian television channels for broadcasting “war propaganda.”
