Two Russian Nationals Arrested for Plotting ISIS Attack on Istanbul Gay Parade
Istanbul security services arrested two males from Dagestan on June 21 after being suspected of plotting a terrorist attack on the city’s Trans Pride Parade. On June 17, Security Services in Istanbul raided the apartments of suspected members of ISIS, confiscating suicide vests, seizing ISIS documents and detaining a Turkish national along with the two Russian males. Russian diplomats in Istanbul said that they received no official information about the arrest according to TASS.
The men allegedly planned to carry out a suicide bomb attack in the crowd during one of Istanbul’s two Pride Parades, which were both officially banned for the second year in a row due to security concerns. Ultra-nationalist and conservative groups were among those who announced that they would do “whatever is necessary” to stop the parades
